Empire - Chapter Two

Ephan was sixteen when it really began to sink into peoples minds. That Jamsen was not as indestructable as everyone believed. Jamsen was a very prosperous world, though still vulnerable. Its people were industrious, educated and they were growing in all aspects of their culture and civilization. They were building huge beautiful buildings that could rival structures of the Milani. They were increasing in the fields of science at an incredible rate and they were growing ever more confident in their technological abilities. They believed they could save themselves from any obstacle that faced them. How limited their minds had been. Theirs and our destruction has been brought about by laze and pride, we did not see it coming just as they had not.
The ancient records say that in the year 7432 of the First Father was when the first trace appeared. The first trace of the Jamsee's incompetency, that same incompetency that flows obviously through our veins.
Jamsen was probed and the Jamsee didn't notice it until their fate was sealed. Tumlan the star around which Jamsen orbited had always protected it from meteorites. Now and then a tiny fleck might scratch the atmosphere but would burn up in the atmosphere before it could reach the ground. The Jamsee should have known when the Tamsen meteor shower hit that it wasn't just an incident caused by nature.
This meteor shower was odd in its sense of trajectory. This is what allowed it to reach Jamsen and penetrate its atmosphere. The meteors had entered the Tumlan system in the shadow of it's sixth and largest planet, Kumsan. Kumsan was an extremely large planet for it's relatively small mass. Kumsan cast its shadow out far enough that the Tamsen meteors slipped in the system without being melted or broken down at all by Tumlan's intense heat and radioactive output. The Jamsee never noticed this event taking place. Eventually the meteors got far enough into the system following Kumsan's shadow that they were able to fall into Tamsen's shadow when Tamsen moved between Kumsan and Tumlan. This eclipse and a change in trajectory allowed the meteors to penetrate farther into the system. When Jamsen moved into an eclipse with Tumlan the meteors changed their trajectory once more and moved into the shadow cast by Jamsen. They meteors where now headed for Jamsen, on their collision course but were still not noticed by the Jamsee.
